BE ‘MR SPERMINATOR’ THE SAFE WAY: DONATE TO A SPERM BANK
16th November 2017Are you Britain’s answer to ‘Mr Sperminator’? American man Ari Nagel appeared on TV’s Good Morning Britain recently, talking about his role as a super sperm donor to 24 different women, producing 29 children.
Donating through private arrangement and citing good intentions as the reasons for his sperm service, the 42-year-old revealed he has even offered his sperm in coffee chain cups to help one particular woman have a baby.
Donating sperm privately – is it worth the risk?
Whilst Mr Nagel is US-based where the laws surrounding sperm donation are different, in the UK there has also been an increase in men offering their sperm through similar private unorthodox methods.
Dedicated matching apps, social media and messaging services are making it easier than ever for men to advertise their sperm completely unlicensed and unregulated.
But if you have ambitions to be the next ‘Mr Sperminator’ think twice – because donating through private arrangement may result in life-long and unexpected consequences for you. Such as:
Legal parenthood: You may actually be the legal father of a child, which makes you morally and financially responsible, depending on the relationship status of the person you’re donating to and the method of conception.
Health risks: Are you healthy enough to be a sperm donor? What if you have undiagnosed STIs or genetic or hereditary conditions? You could be putting others at risk, including donor-conceived children.
Future issues: You may have all agreed that you won’t be involved in a child’s life, but what if you, or the other party, change this decision? Private agreements can easily go wrong down the line.
Donate sperm safely with Semovo
If you want to help women have a family, there is a much safer way to do it for all concerned. Donate through a licensed sperm bank like Semovo and you’re protected – you’re never a child’s legal parent and are anonymous to the person you’re donating to.
You’ll be health-screened so you know your sperm is safe and fertile and you can find out how many babies you’ve helped to be born – you can only create a maximum of 10 families - reassured that you’re identifiable and contactable to donor-conceived people in future, if they want to know who you are.
You’ll also be given counselling, so you’re aware of all the future implications of sperm donation.
Even if you have a friend you want to help, you should still go through a licensed clinic so you’re legally protected and everyone understands their rights.
It’s great that you want to help others by donating sperm – so let us help you do it properly.
