Sperm donation is the ultimate way for guys to give back. If you would like to be a sperm donor, here are five key things you need to know first:

It’s rewarding: Helping someone to have a family of their own is the most personal, charitable thing you can do. If you have time to spare and are in good health, you could be a sperm donor. Your expenses will even be covered – sperm donors get £45 compensation for every donation, to take into account your time and commitment travelling to the clinic.

It’s a thorough process: Sperm donation is straightforward and simple but it can take a few months to get there. There are lots of processes and checks that need to happen first, so we can be sure that you are healthy and your sperm is suitable for donation.

It’s not something every guy can do: You may be surprised to know that not every man can actually be a sperm donor. Sperm for donation has to be the best quality, because of the processes it goes through in fertility treatment. Many men don’t have this quality of sperm, even though they are perfectly capable of conceiving a baby naturally. We’ll perform a sperm test when you apply, so you can learn about your own fertility and whether you have the type of sperm that’s needed for donation.

It works around you: You can choose when to make your regular sperm donations, so it fits in around you and your life. Many of our sperm donors choose to donate on their way to or from work. Semovo clinics are open early until late and are in convenient locations. During the initial process, we’ll also arrange your appointments for times that suit you.

It’s life-changing: One of the best parts of being a sperm donor is finding out your sperm has worked and someone has had a baby. As the sperm donor you have the right to know the gender of the baby and year of birth. You may even get the opportunity one day to be in contact, as all sperm donors are identifiable to donor-conceived children, so they have the chance to learn about their biological origins if they wish to know. We’ll talk to you about this as part of your application process, so you understand what it means for you.

Can I donate sperm?

Are you aged 18-45? In good health with no history in your family of any genetic or hereditary conditions? These are the most basic criteria you need to fulfil to apply to be a Semovo sperm donor.
