Donate your sperm this fertility week

It’s annual Fertility Week in the UK! And one of the biggest focuses this year is male fertility, encouraging more men to talk openly about fertility issues and raising awareness of how common male fertility problems are.

Sometimes a sperm donor is needed to give the hope of having a family and by donating your sperm you could help someone to still become a Dad and enable a couple to have a much longed-for child together.

How your sperm donation is used to help

Your donated sperm can be used in all sorts of ways to help a couple with male fertility factors to have a baby, such as:

  • IUI: Your sperm is prepared and washed and inserted into the uterus of the female partner, around the time she ovulates.
  • IVF: Your sperm is mixed with eggs collected from the female partner in a laboratory. The best resulting embryo is transferred back into the womb to grow like in natural pregnancy.
  • ICSI: ICSI is a technique used in IVF that maximises the chance of fertilisation, where instead of mixing your sperm with eggs, a single healthy sperm is injected into each egg.

How men choose sperm donors

Like women who need egg donors, most men who need sperm donors choose a donor who they closely resemble.

That’s why we need men of all different physical characteristics to donate to us – because everyone has their own unique requirements. You might just be the donor someone’s hoping for.

Can you donate sperm?
